Welcome to Redwood Class
Year 5 and 6
Mrs Rawlinson
Class Teacher
Fun Fact: Mrs Rawlinson thought that she might like to be a train driver or a ballerina but, at the age of 7, she realised that train drivers don't usually work on steam engines and that she wasn't graceful enough to become a ballet dancer. She quickly decided that becoming a teacher would be the best job in the world.

Redwood News and Highlights
Anti-Bullying Week
On Monday the 13th of November 2023, it was the start of Anti-bullying Week. We wore odd socks to show that we pledge to value and celebrate everyone's differences. We read extracts from the book Wonder by R J Palacio and thought about how kindness can really make a difference.
Bikeability
Our Year 6 pupils receive Bikeability training. They spend two days under the instruction of cycling experts, learning about safe and responsible cycling skills such as making careful observations; choosing a good riding position; ways of communicating to other road users; and an understanding of priority.
UK Parliament Week
As part of UK Parliament Week, we held an election! The pupils in Redwood created four political parties and then each party chose policies to become their manifesto. We elected parliamentary candidates and created campaign speeches and posters to explain our ideas. We held a hustings meeting, opened, counted the votes and listened as our returning officer declared the winning candidate.
Meeting with our MP
Following our work on British parliament, we invited Kevin Hollinrake, the MP for our school's area, into class. We learnt lots about what being a Member of Parliament is like.
An A-maize-ing Harvest
We were very excited to watch the harvesting of the maize crop in the field next to school. It was cut into tiny pieces and then sprayed into trailers. It will be used to feed cows on the Kirby farm over the winter.
Skip2bfit
Dave, from Skip2bfit and Box2bfit, came into school to lead a fitness workshop with each class. Redwood (and Mrs Rawlinson!) really pushed themselves to achieve as much as possible in a challenging circuit session.
Year 6 Leavers
We said goodbye to our 11 Year 6s in style this year with a special class party. There was food and dancing! Many thanks to Mr and Mrs Simms for generously providing food, drink and decorations: the hall looked amazing and we had such a lot of fun! Our Year 6 pupils wear special Leavers' hoodies. They all choose an individual colour. We love how they look!
STEM Ambassador Visit
In our science topic on forces, a retired engineer, Philip Purkis, visited Redwood with a collection of pulleys and gears. We were able to learn lots by exploring the ways in which these simple machines worked and the workshop culminated in the use of three pulleys to allow Philip to lift a pupil off the ground!
Half Termly Overviews
Our half-termly overviews are sent home at the start of every new half-term. They explain what the class will be studying over the following weeks and provide information about the homework expectations. Half termly overviews for 2023/2024 are also available to download below.
