Safeguarding Information

At Linton-on-Ouse Primary School and Nursery, we are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all our pupils.  We have a duty of care for our children and believe that every pupil has the right to feel safe and protected. All staff at Linton-On-Ouse Primary School take this duty of care very seriously.

At Linton-On-Ouse Primary School and Nursery, our Child Protection Policy and procedures are reviewed at least annually. The policies and procedures in place are created and maintained to be alert for possible signs of abuse; ensuring staff are appropriately trained and, where appropriate, share information and work in partnership with other agencies, in order to keep our children safe.

Prevent Duty

As part of Linton-On-Ouse Primary School and Nursery’s ongoing safeguarding and child protection duties, we are fully behind the government’s Prevent Strategy. From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for Schools.

As part of the curriculum here at Linton-On-Ouse Primary School and Nursery, we build pupils’ understanding and resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British values and enabling our pupils to challenge extremist views.

The statutory guidance refers to the importance of Prevent Awareness Training to equip staff to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas. As part of our compulsory staff training we constantly participate to ensure our knowledge is up to date.

Operatation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership. It has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of normal school hours and that might have had an impact on a child attending our school the following day. This information will be shared at the earliest opportunity between Monday and Friday. When an incident occurs over the weekend the school will be notified on the Monday by the police. A nominated member of school staff, known as a key adult, will receive the information from the police. They will be able to use the information that has been shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that our school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children or their families. Information will be shared where it is identified that a child or young person was present, witnessed or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.

Please view their website for more information: https://www.operationencompass.org/
