In 2021 we were really proud to receive the Gold Healthy Schools award from North Yorkshire Council, we have just renewed our Healthy Schools GOLD status for 2024.
Here at Linton-on-Ouse Primary School and Nursery we are passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles, both inside and outside of school.
Active Lives
We provide active learning through lunchtime clubs, such as; basketball, football, and dance. Our Pupil Leadership team take part in organising and carrying out these clubs.
Our playground has an array of play equipment for children to access every break time, we also have a scrap shed which consists of plastic pipes, wooden blocks, crates and tyres which encourages children's creativity and team work.
Our KS1 class takes part in forest school lessons once a week and our KS2 classes carry out forest school lessons termly.
During the months of May - September we provide swimming lessons twice a week, and more if the weather serves us well!
We have sufficient space for children to store their scooters and bikes at school, meaning they can travel to school in a variety of ways. We also have a choice of trikes, scooters and equipment in our EYFS area.
Each year our Y6 class takes part in Bikeability: they learn how to cycle safely on the roads.
The whole school takes part in Skip2Bfit and Boxercise, this is a wonderful experience and a great deal of fun!
We have a Pupil Leadership team, made up of children from Y5 and Y6 – these pupils have a lead in subjects, books, events, lunch times, PE and new events coming up.
We have a school council across the school from Y2 to Y6, they meet weekly and discuss ways to make improvements around school and work with the leadership team on events.
We regularly carry out subject pupil voice questionnaires.
We have weekly sessions for pupils with identified needs, this is either as a group or 1:1.
Our staff is trained in Zones of Regulation and we encourage pupils to consider their regulation levels as they move through the school day. Each class has a Zones of Regulation display and we share ideas about how to increase our focus and potential for learning.
We run specific Zones of Regulation sessions for chosen pupils. They learn about ways to help themselves regulate their emotions with increasing independence.
A 5 ways to wellbeing display where children have access to mindful colouring at lunch and break times.
A school ideas box and well-being boxes/monsters in each classroom.
We take part in mental health week and mental health day, as well as many other supporting causes throughout the school year.
We follow the national food standards and offer meat, fish, and vegetarian options, as well as jacket potatoes and sandwiches served with salad.
We remind parents of what a healthy packed lunch looks like via leaflets and our school newsletter.
We supply any specific dietary requirements: gluten, lactose free, etc.
We have a free fruit scheme and offer free fruit to all children across the school.
We have signed up to the cool milk scheme, this is offered to all children under 5 for free; for children over 5, we offer the option to purchase milk through the cool milk scheme.
We follow the PSHE Association curriculum across the school.
We carry out book looks, planning scrutiny, copied examples and have an ongoing PSHE evidence folder of work.
All children take part in LORIC lessons and days such as internet safety, anti-bullying,
We were very excited to have been invited to Harlow Carr Gardens and take part in a range of interesting workshops including a delightful walk around the gardens. The children joined other schools and learnt about oral hygiene, mental health and wellbeing. We ended the day being presented with our Gold Renewal Certificate, Well done to our four Pupil Leadership Ambassadors for their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn more!
