Personal, Social, and Health Education

"What is the bravest thing you've ever said? asked the boy. 'Help,' said the horse. 'Asking for help isn't giving up,' said the horse. 'It's refusing to give up." ~ Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.

Intent:

At Linton-on-Ouse Primary School and Nursery, the intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all, and that will maximise the outcomes for every child. PSHE is embedded in all that we do to enable our children to become independent, responsible, healthy and confident members of society. Our PSHE curriculum has been built with the aim to support the development of the ‘whole child’, by helping them to understand how they are developing personally and socially as well as promoting their social, mental and physical development.

We intend for children to:

Implementation:

PSHE is taught through discrete lessons and is also distributed throughout our wider curriculum. Some examples of this include:

Our school follows the PSHE Association scheme of learning, and is reviewed often to ensure that it is relevant, up to date and appropriate.

British Values are a key part of PSHE learning, and are integrated throughout the PSHCE curriculum as well as during whole-school events such as Parliament Week or celebrations.

Our PSHE curriculum is also designed to take national events into consideration, for example through Anti-Bullying week, Internet Safety day, and Mental Health Week.

Impact:

By the end of each key stage, children will have had the opportunities to meet the end of key stage statements in line with the statutory guidance outlined in the Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education.

Impact is measured through teacher assessment based on statements on ‘Insight pupil tracking’ and categorised as:

·       Above

·       Below

·       Just Below

·       On Track

·       Greater Depth

Our curriculum, along with various trips, workshops and visitors, will impact our children by enabling them to make outstanding progress throughout their time at Linton-On-Ouse Primary School and Nursery and they will leave us with at least age-related expectations for PSHE. We will have developed considerate citizens and our children will understand how to keep themselves and others safe in our ever changing world. Our children will understand that they have the capability to change the world and the importance of their actions. This will all be evidenced through pupil voice and within their books.

All subjects are monitored and kept up to date by a specified subject leader. Each term, reports are created to share with school staff and governors, showing the children's progression and key development points for that subject area.

Parents are informed of their child's progress through parent-teacher meetings and written reports. Teachers will request to meet with parents should any concerns arise, aiming for the best possible outcome for the child.
