Swimming

At Linton-on-Ouse Primary School and Nursery, we are very lucky to have our own swimming pool on the school grounds!

All children are given the opportunity to swim regularly in the summer term, and we do our best to ensure that the swimming pool is open for as long as possible - sometimes into the Autumn term too. When the swimming pool is ready, and the weather is favourable, class teachers will inform parents of their childs swimming days.

Please do note that as much as we aim to keep to a schedule, swimming is dependent on a range of factors and the school may change the day at short notice to ensure the safety and comfort of all pupils. We advise that children bring swimming kit into school every day in the second part of the summer term to ensure that we can maximise the potential for swimming opportunities.

Swimming is an important part of the P.E. Curriculum. At Linton-on-Ouse Primary School and Nursery, we take our responsibility to teach water safety and swimming skills seriously, knowing that this could be a life-saving skill. For more information please see our P.E. curriculum page.

School staff receive the proper swimming teaching and lifesaving training needed to ensure that the children have high quality lessons from adults that they have already built a trusting relationship with. The progess that we see can be quite phenomenal!

Extra-curricular Swimming

In order to maximise the use of the swimming pool, we offer extra-curricular lessons after school during the summer term. Children swim with their own age-group as closely as possible during these sessions and they are led by qualified staff. During these sessions the children also are given a snack and time in our after-school club provision.

Further information will be communicated to parents as soon as they are organised and these lessons incur a minor cost.

These are very popular lessons, children and staff have a lot of fun and water confidence is our main goal.

Swimming kit and Swimming preparation

We ask that children bring their swimming kit into school everyday when the swimming pool is open. This allows us to be flexible in terms of weather and the students' learning.

Kit should include:

Please be aware that we may ask for your child to not wear goggles during swimming lessons. This is an important learning experience, as it ensures that children learn to swim without them for their own safety.

We also ask that children do not come to school wearing suncream or other products on days when they swim in the morning, as this can adversely affect the chemical levels in the swimming pool. They are welcome to bring these items with them to apply after their swimming lessons on these days
