Computing

''A computer is like a violin, you can imagine it making beautiful music, but you have to know how to play it.'' ~ Bill Gates

Intent:

At our school we intend that children should master Computing to such an extent that they can go on to have careers within Computing and make use of Computing effectively in their everyday lives, without being completely reliant on technology. Our children will be taught to use technology responsibly and carefully, being mindful of how their behaviour, words and actions can affect others. Our children will be taught Computing in a way that ensures progression of skills, and follows a sequence to build on previous learning. Our children will gain experience and skills of a wide range of technology in a way that will enhance their learning opportunities, enabling them to use technology across a range of subjects to be creative and solve problems, ensuring they make progress.

Online Safety

Beyond the Teach Computing online safety units, we deliver additional online safety lessons linking directly to our PSHE curriculum ‘PSHCE Association’ This provides regular and explicit teaching about the importance of online safety. We also ensure we mark Internet Safety Day and discuss and concerns we or the children may have appropriately. We believe that our children are given the tools they need to be safe and respectful digital citizens.

If you are aware of any online safety concerns, please see the Online Safety page for further details on our safeguarding policy and how to report this to us.

Implementation:

Using the National Curriculum and Teach Computing we follow and deliver a broad and balanced Computing curriculum that builds on previous learning and provides both support and challenge for learners. Teach Computing ensures a progression of skills and covers all aspects of the Computing curriculum.

Here at Linton-On-Ouse Primary School and Nursery we want to ensure that Computing is embedded in our whole school curriculum and that opportunities for enhancing learning by using technology are available.

Impact:

Our children enjoy and value Computing and developing their ability to understand, navigate technology and use it to enhance their everyday lives. We ensure that our children understand and appreciate the value of Computing in the context of their personal wellbeing, whilst knowing how to keep themselves safe whilst using it and the internet.

Impact is measured by assessing against objective statements through ‘Insight pupil tracking’ as:

·       Below

·       Just Below

·       On Track

·       Greater Depth

All subjects are monitored and kept up to date by a specified subject leader. Each term, reports are created to share with school staff and governors, showing the children's progression and key development points for that subject area.

Parents are informed of their child's progress through parent-teacher meetings and written reports. Teachers will request to meet with parents should any concerns arise, aiming for the best possible outcome for the child.
